Pogo

Reimagining Travel Planning for the Post-Pandemic Explorer

Who They Are

Pogo is a UK-based, all-in-one travel-planning app that has quickly become a trusted companion for over 60,000 wanderlust-driven users. From sparking inspiration to shaping detailed itineraries and completing bookings, Pogo puts the power of travel at users’ fingertips.

Originally launched as Pluto in 2018, the app offered a Pinterest-style, independent-travel aesthetic that attracted curious and adventurous users. However, while visually appealing, Pluto lacked the functionality to convert planning into action. Users could dream, explore ideas, and save inspiration, but they couldn’t seamlessly take the next step to book flights, accommodations, or experiences. After rebranding in 2021, Pogo embraced a bold vision: to become more than just a planning tool, transforming into a fully-featured, end-to-end travel companion.

The Challenge

The travel landscape was evolving rapidly. Post-pandemic, travelers were seeking platforms that could simplify every stage of the journey—discovering destinations, planning logistics, and booking with confidence—all in one place. Pluto’s original design, though beautiful and user-friendly, fell short of delivering this seamless experience.

Competitors with fully integrated booking options had begun to capture market share, leaving Pogo struggling to convert its growing base of planners into active bookers. The challenge was multi-layered: it wasn’t just about a redesign or rebrand; it was about redefining the core user experience, integrating new technologies, and creating a commercial platform that could generate revenue while delighting users.

To address this challenge, Pogo partnered with Maverick Partners, seeking an approach that would marry technology, design, and strategic vision.

The Solution

Maverick Partners took a comprehensive approach, rethinking Pogo’s app architecture, visual identity, and user journey from the ground up. The redesign focused on speed, scalability, and adaptability, leveraging React Native to allow future-proof growth across devices.

Key improvements included:

  • Integrated Booking Experience: Leveraging the Booking.com API, users could now book flights, accommodations, and experiences without ever leaving the app, creating a seamless path from inspiration to execution.
  • Enhanced Navigation: Apple Maps integration provided intuitive, real-time wayfinding, helping users explore their destinations effortlessly.
  • Consistent, Engaging Brand Experience: Pogo’s refreshed visual identity was applied across every touchpoint, from onboarding to in-app notifications, creating a unified and memorable experience.
  • Strategic Roadmap for Expansion: The app’s architecture was designed to support an Android version, scheduled for a 2025 launch, ensuring Pogo could grow its community beyond iOS users.

Beyond technology, we helped shape Pogo’s positioning as more than just a planning app. By focusing on user needs, behaviour patterns, and engagement drivers, we transformed Pogo into a platform that guides travellers through every stage of their journey, fostering trust, loyalty, and excitement.

The Results

The impact of Pogo’s transformation has been significant:

  • Thriving Community: Over 60,000 active users are now engaged in planning, sharing, and booking travel through the app.
  • High Engagement: Users have created over 80,000 Pinboards, turning dream destinations into tangible plans.
  • Exceptional User Satisfaction: A 4.7 rating on the Apple App Store reflects strong trust and satisfaction among travelers.
  • Foundation for Growth: With a robust roadmap, Pogo is poised to expand its reach to Android users in 2025, multiplying its potential audience and engagement.

Pogo’s journey illustrates the power of combining visionary design, strategic technology, and user-centred thinking. By evolving from a visually appealing inspiration board into a feature-rich, end-to-end travel companion, Pogo not only met the expectations of modern travelers but exceeded them — creating a platform that inspires, guides, and empowers.

Pogo’s transformation from a planning board into a trusted, feature-rich travel companion has strengthened user satisfaction, loyalty, and monetisation — while setting the stage to expand its reach with Android.
